BRI Life Conducts Investigation of Allegedly 2 Million Customer Data Leaks

    The data of 2 million BRI Life customers is allegedly leaked and traded on the internet by hackers who have not been identified so far.

    Currently, BRI Life admits that it is investigating the data leak and confirms that it will continue to guarantee the security of customer policies.

    "We, together with an independent team in the field of cyber security, are currently conducting digital traces in the context of investigations and carrying out the necessary things to improve the data protection of BRI Life policyholders," the company wrote in its official statement.

    This is a follow-up to the news on social media on July 27, 2021 regarding the alleged data theft.

    BRI Life's Corporate Secretary Ade Nasution emphasized that BRI Life guarantees the rights of policyholders in accordance with the policies they have.

    "BRI Life continues to make maximum efforts to protect policyholder data through the implementation of information technology governance and data management in accordance with the provisions and standards and applicable laws and regulations," said Ade in a press release received by Tekno Liputan6.com, Wednesday (28 /7/2021).

    The company claims to never provide personal data to irresponsible parties.

    "BRI Life is committed to continuing to provide life insurance protection for as many people as possible in Indonesia by continuing to develop the application of good governance principles in accordance with applicable regulations," he continued.

    As many as 2 million BRI Life customer data were allegedly leaked and sold by hackers on hacker forums. This news was revealed by the Twitter account Under The Breach (@underthebreach).

    In his tweet, Under The Breach shared four screenshots showing what information the hacker was selling.

    "The criminals sold sensitive data from BRI Life, the insurance branch of Bank Rakyat Indonesia," wrote @underthebreach on his Twitter account, Wednesday (28/7/2021).

    He added, "they obtained 250 GB of data containing information, including information on 2 million customer names, 463

    thousand documents, and sold it for Rp 101 million."

    Furthermore, the Twitter account Hudson Rock (@Hrock) identified how hackers were able to steal the data of these BRI Life customers.

    They said that hackers were able to steal the data by infiltrating a number of computers of BRI Life and Bank Rakyat Indonesia employees.
