Twitter is said to have fallen into the same hole twice. The story is in 2012, Twitter once provided a verification (blue tick) on an account that allegedly belonged to the famous writer Cormac McCarthy. But apparently, the account does not belong to the leading author.

Now, in 2021 the same thing will happen again. Quoted by The Verge, Tuesday (3/8/2021), in a short time Twitter verified a fake Cormac McCarthy account with the username @CormacMcCrthy.

The account has now been unverified, but a representative for McCarthy's agency, ICM Partners, confirmed to The Verge that the account is a fake.

"I can confirm that (the account) is not Cormac McCarthy's original account. Twitter is aware of this situation and we hope it will be resolved soon," said a representative for McCarthy's agency.

Meanwhile, Twitter has not responded when The Verge asked for comment on this matter.

Cormac McCarthy's fake account tweeted something the 88-year-old novelist couldn't possibly tweet.

Cormac McCarthy is best known for his novels depicting darkness and violence. Starting from his novel entitled The Road, Blood Meredian, to No Country for Old Men.

    Chirping Joke
But what the fake account tweeted (with a blue check verification mark) was a joke.

For your information, the fake account @CormacMcCarthy has been uploading tweets irregularly since 2018. This account was instead given a verification mark after a number of his tweets went viral, getting tens of thousands of likes and Retweets.

Many Twitter users are skeptical about the authenticity of the account. However, the author with another verified Twitter account, Stephen King, also briefly interacted with the fake McCarthy account. It is not clear whether Stephen King was duped by the account.

Twitter's verification permainan togel colok bebas process has often been criticized for being slow in accepting requests, but in this case it gave a blue tick quickly.

Please note, Twitter is relaunching the verification process in early 2021. There are a number of criteria that must be met if you want to get a verification mark, for example the account must be authentic, famous, and active.

Researchers assess, Twitter seems to often act recklessly so that it often verifies spam and bot accounts.
