In the midst of financial difficulties, Barcelona was troubled by cases of racism by two French players, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele. Both were caught racist to the Japanese.
Last week, Griezmann and Dembele were in the spotlight after circulating a video that allegedly contained racist insults to Japanese people. The video was taken during Barcelona's pre-season tour of Japan in 2019.
In the video, Dembele and Griezmann are seen in a hotel room. Grizmann called in a technician to fix a broken television so he could play the video game Efootball Pro Evolution Soccer. Dembele then jokingly insulted the technicians and hotel staff who happened to be Japanese.
"All these ugly faces, just so you can play PES, aren't you ashamed?" Dembele said to Grizmann.
In the video Griezmann actually does not speak at all. But the Frenchman seemed to agree with Dembele's statement. Griezmann replied to Dembele's comments with a smile.
The circulation of this video was fatal for Barcelona and Griezmann himself. The Japanese companies sponsoring Barcelona and Griezmann's personal sponsor were furious and took immediate action.
Griezmann was immediately fired by the Japanese video game company Konami. The former Atletico Madrid player is no longer the brand ambassador for cara untung main togel Yu-Gi-Oh!. Griezmann's contract was canceled by Konami.
Konami's decision to sack Griezmann came a day after Barcelona's main sponsor, Japanese e-commerce company Rakuten, was furious about this racism incident.
Rakuten asked Barcelona to take action for this embarrassing incident. Just like Rakuten, Konami also urged Barcelona to provide an explanation and firm action to the two players.
