    Peter Smith

Your heating and air conditioning system is one of the most probably expensive appliances in your Charleston, SC home. To help get the most value out of your HVAC system can be as easy as changing out your air filters regularly , seems simple right? More often than not, Charleston, SC homeowners ignore the importance of the filters in their heating and air conditioning system. This can lead to higher energy bills, poor indoor air quality, damaged HVAC equipment, and more.

Air filters are generally made of pleated paper or spun fiberglass and then surrounded by a cardboard frame. They are inserted into a specific place in your HVAC system and they act as a barrier to prevent pollutants and contaminants from circulating into the air. Some of the most common things that air filters block are dust, pollen, hair, lint, bacteria, mold, dander, animal fur, and Heat Pump repair.

Depending on your Charleston, SC home living situation and the type of filter you are using, there are different   when it comes to changing out your air filters. A popular rule of thumb is to change out your air filters every 1-2 months, however, there are some differences, such as  the number of people and pets in your home can make this number smaller or larger. We recommend checking on your air filters once a month and then assessing from there whether or not your air filters need to be replaced. Most of the time it is best to change them at this time just to be safe.
